Important Information if you are looking for a French Bulldog
If you are wondering how to find the right French Bulldog puppy you have come to the right page. Please support ethical and reputable breeders by following these important guidelines below:
Here are some big No Nos of adopting a Purebred French bulldog.
Avoid these and you will be on your way to adopting a purebred Frenchie:
Kijiji
No reputable breeder will ever need to advertise on Kijiji. 99% of puppies posted on Kijiji are non-registered (not purebred French bulldog by law) and not up to breed standard with fad colors such as merle/ black and tan.
In fact we took a look at the ads posted as of January 2022 and couldn't find a single ad for an actual purebred French Bulldog!!
Why would you spend thousands of dollars on a French bulldog that is not even purebred, has no pedigree, comes from parents that aren't health tested and puppy is 4+ months old= imported from overseas puppy mills. The quickest way to know if a puppy was born here in Canada or is imported is being able to meet the breeder and puppy before they are 8 weeks old in person. If a breeder only has 12+ week old puppies always available they are 99% not born in Canada.
If an ad says " comes with passport" 100% those are imported from overseas. If the breeder doesn't want to meet in person, they should at least be able to show you numerous videos from their home of the puppies when they were born, 1 week, 2 weeks etc. and be willing to do Facetime with you.
We usually post 3-10 videos daily on our Instagram from our home of our puppies growing.
If you are already spending thousands of dollars on your French bulldog puppy, why not adopt from a reputable, established breeder whose dogs are CKC registered, raised in their home here in Canada, health tested for over 250 genetic diseases, with puppies that are temperament tested prior to going home? Ask yourself....who do I want to support?
FAD Colors
There are some "breeders" out there, and that is a very generous term, who only breed FAD/Exotic colors in their French bulldogs. Imagine looking for a Dalmatian, and a breeder offers you " rare, exotic golden long coat Dalmatian". Well first of all wait a minute, Dalmatians don't look like Golden retrievers do they? It is exactly the same sentiment with Merle, Black and Tan, Chocolate and Fluffy Frenchies.
These are no such colors in the French Bulldog breed standard.
First, it’s impossible for a Merle French Bulldogs to be purebred. Inventive breeders are crossing into other strains that do carry Merle, typically Chihuahuas, to create Merle French Bulldogs. Second, Merle dogs can confront health problems that range from structural defects and eye anomalies, deafness, blindness along with increased fetal mortality rates.
French Bulldog standard worldwide from Europe to Canada is Cream, Fawn, Brindle, White or pied versions of those colors. So if you see a " breeder" only breeding "Exotic" colors run don't walk. Its like buying a golden fluffy Dalmatian.

Choose a breeder who upholds and preserves the French Bulldog Breed Standard.

Unregistered dogs
If a French Bulldog is not registered with a kennel club, be it with CKC, AKC or FCI, simply put they are not a purebred French Bulldog. No matter how much they look like a French bulldog in appearance.
It is against the law to claim a dog is purebred without a registration with a kennel club.

If you are going to spend thousands of dollars on a puppy why buy a mix with unpredictable temperament? Why not actually adopt a purebred French bulldog? Ask yourself...
No genetic health Testing
Why adopt a puppy whose parents haven't been health tested? Why would you buy from a "breeder" who cares so little for their breeding program that they don't health test their dogs prior to breeding? What kind of responsible ethical breeder doesn't care about the health of their dogs: A backyard breed, puppy mill or a broker on kijiji.
By adopting from them you are saying " Yes I support your lack of care for this breed and I don't care about the health of my future puppy".
You as the buyer have all the power to support the hardworking CKC Registered breeders.
Presence/Reviews
We currently have over 100+ 5 star reviews from happy past families, because we have been involved in breeding, raising and showing French bulldogs for 18 years.
About 20% of our puppies being adopted come from our repeat clients, who already have one of our Frenchies and are so happy with their furry family member that they can't wait to adopt another one from us.
When looking for a breeder make sure they have lots of reviews and social media presence.
An anonymous seller on kijiji could delete their ad as soon as you send them your deposit. Make sure breeder's social accounts go years back and show both adults, puppies, and the environment they are raised in. Beware of accounts where only " ready to go puppies" are shown/ every post is "Available puppy now".
